Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Ihfaz ("we", "us") for using ihfaz.online, the Ihfaz app and our live one-to-one Quran classes. By creating an account, or a profile for your child, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. What Ihfaz is

Ihfaz is a platform for live, one-to-one online Quran classes (memorization, review and recitation). Classes are taught by independent teachers who offer their classes through Ihfaz, whose credentials Ihfaz checks before they can teach. Ihfaz runs the booking, payments, video classes, recordings and progress tracking.

2. Who can use Ihfaz

  • You must be 15 or older to have your own account, and you confirm this when you sign up.
  • Learners aged 4 to 14 take part through a child’s profile that a parent or legal guardian adds under their own account (up to 5 children).
  • The parent or guardian accepts these terms on the child’s behalf, books and pays for the classes, and is responsible for the child’s use of Ihfaz. For young children, we recommend that a parent stays nearby during classes.

3. Your account

  • Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • Keep your password secret; you are responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
  • One account per person. Don’t create an account for someone else, except a child’s profile as a parent or guardian.

4. Classes are recorded

Every Ihfaz class is recorded, for everyone’s safety, to resolve disputes fairly, and so students can review their recitation. Recording starts automatically and cannot be turned off; agreeing to it is a condition of having an account. Who can watch recordings and how long we keep them is explained in our Privacy Policy.

You may not record a class yourself (for example by screen recording) or share any recording or part of a class outside Ihfaz without the written agreement of everyone in it. If you withdraw your agreement to recording, we cannot hold classes for you and will close your account.

5. Classes and booking

  • Adults book classes of 45 or 60 minutes, and children’s profiles classes of 30, 45 or 60 minutes; a class’s price is in proportion to its length. Your very first class on Ihfaz has a free 10-minute assessment on top of its length, so your teacher knows where to begin. A subscription’s classes are all the length chosen when subscribing. Classes start on the hour or half-hour, and times are shown in your own time zone.
  • You can book up to 31 days ahead, at the times your teacher has made available. Each teacher sets how much notice they need before a class.
  • To try a teacher, you book one single class with them. To keep learning with a teacher you have had a class with, you subscribe to them (section 6).
  • Classes are bought with a particular teacher and for a particular profile (yours or a child’s), and are used for classes with that teacher and that learner.
  • A time you choose at checkout is held for you for a short while; if payment isn’t completed, it is released.
  • You can add your classes to your own calendar (for example, Google Calendar) with a private link from the app. Anyone who has the link can see your class times, so keep it to yourself. You can make a new link in Settings at any time, and the old one then stops working.

6. Prices, payment and subscriptions

  • Prices are shown in US dollars before you pay, and the price shown is the price you pay. A single class costs the teacher’s price for one class.
  • A subscription is 1, 2 or 3 classes a week with one teacher: 4, 8 or 12 classes every 4 weeks. It costs the teacher’s price for one class times the number of classes, with no extra fee.
  • You pay in advance, by card, through our payment provider Stripe. When you subscribe, your card is saved with Stripe and charged at the start, then automatically every 4 weeks until you cancel. You can change the card in Settings, under Payment methods.
  • You choose the weekly times that work best for you, and the app schedules each 4 weeks’ classes at those times. If a time can’t be scheduled (for example, because your teacher is away), that class stays in your balance for you to book yourself.
  • Each payment’s classes are for the 4 weeks until your next payment. Classes not taken by then expire and are not refunded, so if you will be away, pause your subscription instead (see below).
  • Changing your plan: more classes a week start straight away, and you are charged now for the extra classes in the weeks left before your next payment. Fewer classes a week start from your next payment.
  • Pausing: you can pause a subscription once, for up to 21 days. Your next payment moves back by the length of the pause, and classes booked during it move to the soonest available times after it. You can end a pause early; if you cancel it before it starts, you can still use it later.
  • Cancelling: you can cancel a subscription at any time in the app. There are no more payments after that. The 4 weeks you have already paid for are not refunded, and their classes stay yours to use until they expire.
  • If a payment fails, we email you so you can pay or change your card. Stripe tries the card again over the following days, and no new classes are booked until the payment goes through. If it still isn’t paid after 2 weeks, the subscription ends.
  • Classes bought as a set before subscriptions began can still be used until the date shown in the app.

7. Rescheduling, cancellations and missed classes

  • More than 4 hours before a class, you can move it to another open time with the same teacher, or cancel it, free of charge. A single class is refunded in full to your card; a subscription class goes back to your balance to book again.
  • In the last 4 hours, you can still move a class once, free of charge. If you cancel it instead, we refund 20% of that class’s price to your card; the rest is not refunded, because your teacher had kept that time for you.
  • In the last hour before a class, cancelling it gives nothing back.
  • The rules shown before you pay apply to the classes you buy. If we change them, the change applies only to classes bought afterwards.
  • If the student doesn’t attend: the class counts as taken and is not refunded.
  • If the teacher doesn’t attend: you can report it in the app from 10 minutes after the start until 24 hours after the class was due to end. If we confirm it, we refund that class in full to your card. If an Ihfaz moderator teaches the class instead, it counts as a class taken.
  • If your teacher cancels a class, you choose what happens: take the new time they suggest, pick another time with them, or cancel the class. A cancelled single class is refunded in full to your card, and a subscription class goes back to your balance. If you haven’t chosen by the time the class was due to start, it is cancelled this way for you.
  • If your teacher will be away, we tell you ahead of time. You can take the class with another teacher at the same time (paying the difference if their price is higher), move it, or cancel it free of charge. If you don’t choose, it is cancelled free of charge at its time and the class goes back to your balance.
  • If Ihfaz cancels a class (for example, because a teacher can’t attend), the class goes back to your balance, or a single class is refunded in full to your card.
  • Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Your bank may take several days to show them.

8. Conduct

Everyone on Ihfaz — students, parents and teachers — agrees to:

  • treat others with respect and with the manners befitting the study of the Quran, including appropriate dress and surroundings during classes;
  • never harass, abuse, threaten or discriminate against anyone, or share anything offensive or inappropriate;
  • keep children safe: teachers must never contact a child, or ask for a child’s contact details, outside Ihfaz;
  • not arrange paid classes outside Ihfaz with a teacher or student met through Ihfaz;
  • not misuse Ihfaz: no fake accounts, no attempts to break into or disrupt the service, and no copying of its content or data.

We may warn, suspend or close the account of anyone who breaks these rules, and report anything that endangers a child to the authorities.

9. Teachers

Teachers also agree to a separate teacher agreement covering their qualifications, conduct and payouts. Ihfaz checks teachers’ credentials, but we cannot guarantee any particular result from classes.

10. Content and intellectual property

The Ihfaz name, logo, websites and app belong to Ihfaz. You keep the rights in what you write or upload (for example, notes or a teacher’s profile), and you allow us to use it to run the service. Class recordings are used only as described in our Privacy Policy.

11. Availability of the service

We work to keep Ihfaz available, but it can sometimes be interrupted, for example by internet problems or our video provider. If a technical problem on our side stops a class from taking place, we will return the class to your balance, or refund a single class in full to your card.

12. Our responsibility to you

Ihfaz is an educational service; progress depends on each learner, and we do not promise any particular memorization result. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid Ihfaz in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.

13. Closing your account

You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. When an account is closed, any subscription is cancelled so there are no more payments, and classes you paid for but had not used are handled as described in section 6.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If the changes are significant, we will tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Ihfaz after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree, you can close your account.

15. Disputes

If there is a problem, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it. Nothing in these terms takes away any right the law where you live gives you to use your local courts.
